A disparate mob has been protesting in New York City the past several weeks labeled "Occupy Wall Street," referred to on Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites as OWS.  One of the myriad of targets of the group are corporations and the profits they make and the jobs that OWS participants feel should be created.  Using smartphones, tablets, laptops to blog, tweet, post on Facebook and otherwise get out their protest messages.  Being a mostly younger crowd much of the technology being used is manufactured by Apple Computers.

Apple Computers as you know was co-founded by Steve Jobs who passed away this week after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.  Jobs, a word that has been in the news and media for the past few years.  Politicians orating on how they can create more jobs.  Economists opining on what is needed to create jobs.  Media reporting on how many jobs have been gained or lost.

Steve Jobs created jobs.  At a time the entire world is focussed on the life of Steve Jobs and his innovations that changed our lives, politicians, pundits and OWS protestors should spend time looking at Jobs history of creating not just products but jobs.  His story is quintessentially American, it is a story that many wish to emulate and many have.

Jobs and Steve Wozniak started Apple Computers in Jobs' parents garage.  From two computer geeks in the late 1970s working in a garage in Mountain View, California, Apple Computer has grown to a multinational corporation.  With most of Apple's products manufactured in Asia, its software is developed around the world.  Jobs creation of the iPhone and "apps" has led to millions of entrepreneurs around the world developing and selling applications for the smartphone.

At his death Steve Jobs' Apple Computer represented much of what the OWS protestors seem to be protesting against, an American corporation that has moved jobs oversees to save labor costs, avoid burdensome government regulations and create tremendous profits that accrued to an extremely wealthy individual.

Innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, risk taking, courage, growth, utilization of resources near and far, are the traits that Steve Jobs used to move out of his parents' garage and onto the front page of every major daily newspaper in the world.

Perhaps if more of those demonstrating in New York City had more of these traits they would be working and building their own future instead of protesting the success of others.

As they publicly mourn the death of Jobs and eulogize him our politicians should look at the traits that made him and his company not only great but iconic; for these are the traits that need to be encouraged and allowed to burgeon in our country instead of being hindered and squashed with excessive governmental regulations and taxation.

Blessings to Steve Jobs' family as they continue without him, blessing and gratitude to Jobs as he moves his creativity and innovation to his next adventure.
